Ear Impressions for Custom Plugs

Hearing by Design is your One Stop Shop for all custom-made ear plugs. Before we can order your plugs, we need to take an impression of your ear. During this appointment, Kinau will:

• First check that your ear canals are free from wax or any other obstruction.
• She will then carefully place a soft sponge down the canal to prevent putty from reaching your eardrum.
• Next, she will mix up the impression material which looks and feels a little bit like playdough.
• She will then slowly start to syringe the putty into each ear. The impression material will take only a few minutes to set.
• Once removed, she will inspect the impression making sure it is a good quality representation of your ear with all important landmarks clearly visible, as a poor-quality impression may lead to an ill-fitting plug.
• The impressions will be sent off to the manufacturer, and
• After approximately two weeks, you will come back to the clinic to make sure that the plugs are fit-for-purpose and that they physically fit well in your ears.
